Quite some time since our latest update. Our apologies for this, we have however been very busy working on OP-I

We are currently working hard on getting all ends coming together sometime during spring this year. (Take that as a promise) We have just finished the mechanics for OP-I and have started tooling for production. Electronics design is finished and we are working on getting the production in place.

So currently we are focusing mainly on development and integration of software. A lot of backend systems, backup, upgrade etc, that are needed for launch and of course the software architecture of the OP-I itself. Which packaging, which components to use.

Things are progressing nicely and we are positive on a launch during early spring this year.

    1. Hey Martin!

arkOS would most likely have worked but for now its a stripped down Debian Linux that is being used. Most likely it will also be the one used in the end. The big plus for a distro such as Debian is its huge user base and infrastructure when it comes to updates and most importantly security updates.

  1. Hi,

Is this effectively a successor to the B3? I currently have a B2, but it’s getting a bit long in the tooth, and while I have no intention of getting rid of it, I want to know where I would get my replacement from if the worst happened.

Needless to say, I won’t purchase anything from the new Excito, as they seem to want to be Apple, but Squeezebox support is very important to me since my whole audio setup is based around that.

    1. Dear Mark,

Unfortunately the OP-I could not be considered a successor to the Excito NAS productline B2/B3. OP-I is focused mainly on keeping your personal data safe and always available to you. (With personal data we are mainly talking about information that you yourself have created and wont easily be recreated. Think mail, calendars, photos etc.)

With that said we actually tried to get an arrangement in place to let us take over the responsibilities of the B2/B3 since we of course think these machines are awesome. You can read more on this here . Unfortunately this turned out to not being possible due to various reasons.

So for the moment at least OpenProducts have no B3-successor products on our roadmap. I personally though hope this will change later on.
